Blues Lyrics of the Week: The Hard Way

Recently, we told you about the return of talented young blues musician Melinda Colaizzi to our Steel City. In addition to having a mighty impressive voice, Melinda is also quite a gifted songwriter, as demonstrated by these lyrics from the opening track of her EP.

"Well, I tried to tell you,
but you just wouldn't take it from me.
I wasn't lyin' when I told you
that the truth was gonna' set you free.
But you never did listen to reason,
now you're clearly out to try to break even -
gave you one leg up
and you cut yourself off at the knees.
You had to learn the hard way, baby,
even though I tried to let you down easy.
The hard way, baby,
I guess you just didn't believe me.

I guess we're gettin' to the part
where you wanna' blame someone else.
I could never, ever hurt you
no deeper than you hurt yourself.
You had to learn the hard way, baby,
even though I tried to let you down easy.
The hard way, baby,
well, I guess you didn't, guess you just didn't,
I guess you didn't, guess you just didn't,
believe..."
